November 2009 has seen a significant breakthrough in the search for a cure for ALD and AMN. The announcement describes a successful application of gene therapy to correct the faulty ALD gene in two boys now aged 9 and 10. This is a fantastic success for Professor Patrick Aubourg and his team in France. Dr Nathalie Cartier (from Patrick's team) is also well known to us, and spoke at the recent AMN day on this same subject. We would also like to extend a special thanks and congratulations to our colleague Mark Liley and his family who's Oliver's Army charity has been instrumental in funding this research effort. You can read the full report in The Times on this breakthrough by clicking here.
