November 2009 has seen a significant breakthrough in the search for a cure for ALD and AMN. The announcement describes a successful application of gene therapy to correct the faulty ALD gene in two boys now aged 9 and 10. This is a fantastic success for Prof Patrick Aubourg in France and his team. Dr Nathalie Cartier (from Patrick’s team) is also well known to us and spoke at the recent AMN day on this same subject. We also extend many congratulations to our colleague Mark Liley and his family whose Oliver’s Army charity has been instrumental in funding this research effort.
