Jessica’s battle (the only girl)

10th December 2014

Jessica was 12 years old when ALD took its hold. Up until that point, she had been happy, and very out going. She loved to read, and loved to do internet searches on various types of medications.

In December of 2002, something started to happen to Jessica. She would have mood swings, and constant head aches. Apparently, this had been going on for quite some time now, and her family just told her to suck it up, and go on with her life.

After the school put in several calls, she was finally taken to a local hospital. Tests done on her at the hospital confirmed the diagnosis, adrenoleukodystrophy.

By July, she was paralyzed, tube fed, and blind. I sat by her side, talking to her, and calming her down for a little over a year. Then, on September 24, 2004, she lost her battle.

Thank you for letting me share this experience with you all.
